With the November election a little over 100 days away, postcards are on their way to more than 1.9 million registered voters in San Diego County detailing their voting options.
Election Day for the general presidential election is Tuesday, Nov. 5 — the final day to cast a ballot, whether by voting in person, dropping one’s mail ballot in a ballot drop box or mailing it.
The postcards will remind voters that elections are no longer one-day events, and that there is no need to wait until Election Day to vote.
Registered voters can expect to receive their mail ballots the week of Oct. 6.
Every active registered voter will automatically receive a ballot in the mail, with three options for returning it: by mail, an official ballot drop box or at any vote center.
County election officials are also reminding voters to be prepared, as it may take them longer to complete their ballot due to the large number of contests on it.

Early in-person voting begins Oct. 26 at select vote centers across the county, including at the county election office in Kearny Mesa, and will be available daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Starting Nov. 2, more than 200 vote centers will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Election Day, when all vote centers will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
A total of 146 ballot drop boxes around the county will open starting on Oct. 8.
Voters who choose to return their ballot by mail should remember to sign and date the ballot envelope to ensure their vote will count. They can then track it by signing up for “Where’s My Ballot?” at california.ballottrax.net.
Eligible residents who wish to vote in the November election should register at least 15 days before Election Day. But those who miss the deadline can still conditionally register and vote in person at any vote center.
Voters can check their registration status or locate ballot drop boxes and vote centers online at sdvote.com. They can also call (858) 565-5800 or toll-free at (800) 696-0136.
