A fight near the trolley station in the Palm City area of San Diego Tuesday night left one person dead from a stab wound, San Diego police said.

The victim, who appeared to be a teen or young man, was found at the Palm Avenue trolley station around 7:50 p.m., said homicide Lt. Jud Campbell.

Transit security personnel and police began lifesaving measures, and the victim was transported to a hospital, where he died.

Investigators said the stabbing occurred after a small group of males were involved in a fight on the sidewalk along Hollister Street that spilled into a nearby parking lot.

During the fight, the victim was stabbed, Campbell said. He made his way across the street to the trolley station, where he was found.

Police believe his assailant — described as a teen or young man — ran to a small, dark-colored vehicle that drove off south on Hollister. No detailed description of the suspect was released.

Detectives are trying to find and talk with witnesses and see if there is any surveillance footage of the incident, Campbell said.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to call homicide investigators at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
